Dry Skin Patches And Eczema
If you are suffering dry skin patches and they are getting worse, it’s time to go see a naturopath or physician. The dry skin can take on the form of red, itchy, scaly bumps that could be due to an infection or even an allergy. However, if neither of these two items is true, then you may be dealing with eczema.
A common form of eczema is atopic dermatitis. It can present itself in children as well as adults. It can exhibit such symptoms as red, chapped cheeks, and very dry skin patches on arms, legs, and torso areas. Some people even get dryness on the scalp area.
In adults, the dry skin patches can be found around the eyes, the hands, and even on the genitals. It can be a very uncomfortable disease. Although there appears to be no environmental causes, there are environmental stressors. The disease can appear whenever it wants but it is more likely to appear in the winter when the conditions are dryer.
Other types of rashes that can appear as dry skin that need some sort of medical supervision are psoriasis and rosacea. These require different treatments than eczema and should be evaluated by your physician.
The treatment for eczema is to highly moisturize the skin. When things flare-up, there are special corticosteroids, topical steroids, that are used to treat eczema. However, regular moisturizing is key to preventing outbreaks of eczema. Care must be taken to avoid cracking and infections. Sometimes antihistamines are prescribed to reduce the itchiness and thus decrease the chance of infection. Sometimes special bandages are prescribed with zinc or coal tar to put over the topical steroids and reduce the itchiness too.
All the same things you use to treat normal dry skin can be considered for eczema like:
