Dry Skin: Lotion Or Cream?
Combination dry skin can require some knowledge of when to use a dry skin lotion or when to go for a cream. Lotions, typically, are for areas of the body that have some oily patches along with dry skin. In order not to clog the pores of the skin with more sebaceous glands, some people opt for a lotion instead of a cream. The face is one such area where people like lotions if they have an oily T-zone and dry patches elsewhere. However, on areas that have strictly dry skin, like the hands, elbows, or arms, then you might want to go with a heavier cream. There is little risk of irritating sebaceous glands on your hands, as there are few located there.
The actual difference between most lotions and cream is the oil to water ratio. If there is more oil than water, you have a cream. If you have more water than oil, you have a lotion. Unfortunately, one has to look at the ingredients on the label of any dry skin lotion or cream to understand whether it really is good for dry skin or not. Some manufacturers add alcohol to their lotions and this is actually a drying agent and should be avoided.
The dry skin lotion or cream you do try should be useful to:
- Prevent dry skin
- Remedy for dry skin
- Relieve dry skin
Typically, the oil content has a lot to do with the moisturizing effect. But, not all oils are alike. Creams made with cocoa butter, for instance, while highly moisturizing are also highly comedogenic. They clog pores and these products are not good for the face. Some oils are petroleum-based and high in chemicals. Natural products like almond oil and olive oil products are great for most skin, but for dark skin they can be too light. Darker skin requires a deeper moisturizing oil like avocado oil, which penetrates to the sub layers of the skin.
That's why some people don't bother with a dry skin lotion or cream at all. They go straight to the source of the moisturizing: the natural oils. With a product like Skin So Silky, you can use it with combination skin because a variety of oils are blended together, in a good proportion, to make it a useful product for all skin types. Although you can get a dry skin cream with one or two oils in it, Skin So Silky is all about six different natural oils with no dilution or emulsifiers in it! This makes it a very natural product that is suitable for many different skin types, even those affected by acne. Be sure to try some today to experience the difference yourself.
