When it Comes to Skin Care, Adult Acne Can be Tricky to Treat
When it comes to skin care, adult acne can be very baffling. There are many products available to treat most of the skin ailments that adults suffer from, such as dry skin, sensitive skin, and of course the effects of aging. These are all conditions that an adult expects to deal with. When it comes to skin care, adult acne is often a bit of a shock because most people think that acne is just something that plagues teenagers. Unfortunately, acne can rear its ugly head at any point in your adult life.
Acne occurs when your pores get plugged forming whiteheads, blackheads, pimples and nodules. Your face isn't the only place that can suffer from an outbreak of acne and as a result skin care adult acne treatments need to address areas of your body such as your neck, shoulders, back, chest, and even your arms.
Acne takes many forms including white heads, black heads, pimples, and cysts. Each form of acne should have a unique skin care adult acne routine. A black head is formed when a sebaceous follicle gets clogged with sebum, hair, or bacteria. This is called a comedo and when the comedo is open a blackhead is formed. The blackhead sits at the surface of your skin plugging the follicle with its blackish appearance. If the comedo is closed, it is a called a white head. It usually appears to be a bump on the surface of the skin. It is never a good idea to squeeze or pick at a comedo, whether it is a blackhead or a white head. When you pick at a comedo, you can irritate the skin, causing tissue injury and opening your self up to the possibility of infection.
Another form of acne is the papule. This is a small sore that is raised above the skins surface. Often papules group together. Sometimes a papule is so small it can't be seen, but it can be felt by gently running your hand across the surface of your skin.
A pustule is much different than a papule. A pustule is dome shaped and contains pus. Pus is simply a mixture of white blood cells, dead skin cells, and bacteria. Usually when a pustule forms over a sebaceous follicle there is a hair inside.
A macule forms when an pustule heals. It is the spot on your face that stays red for a few days after a pustule has gone away. When you have a lot of acne, having several macules can give your face a red and inflamed appearance.
A nodule is solid like a papule, but unlike a papule, it is usually inflamed. It also tends to be deeper acne and left untreated can leave scars on your skin. This type of acne is often very painful and doesn't always respond well to typical acne treatments.
The last form of acne is the cyst. A cyst is basically a sac that contains fluid. It can be very large and can easily become inflamed. Cysts can also leave scars on your skin. Cystic acne is usually hard to treat and can be very painful.
When it comes to skin care, adult acne can be hard to treat. The best treatment for adult breakouts is a skin care routine that includes exfoliation, cleansing, and moisturizing. It is also a good idea to use an all natural product, such as SkinSoSilky when you cleanse your face.
