Acne Blemish Care Medication - Treatment for Skin Problems

It doesn't matter how old you are, you can still get zits and still need acne blemish care (medication, skin treatment options and the like). So, you wake up one morning and find a big, red pustule - now what are you going to do? Thankfully, you're not the first person to get an acne blemish. Care, medication and treatment options are available.

Acne acne blemish care, medication, skin treatment etc has all come a long way since Roman physicians recommended hot sulphur water baths. Now that medical science has determined what causes the formation of most acne blemishes, quite a few medically sound treatments have been devised, with innovations happening all the time. That said, basic skin care is the root of all treatment.

The good news is that you don't have that zit because you're a bad or filthy person. Contrary to popular belief, dirt and character have no significant effect on your breakouts. It is true that a skin pore or hair follicle has been plugged up, but more likely with dead skin cells that were sloughed off. Bacteria and fungus that naturally lives on your skin without problem have gotten trapped inside and a cyst, pustule or blackhead is the result.

There are four basic approaches to treating acne.

  • Slow down the production of dead skin cells
  • Reduce inflammation of affected areas
  • Kill the bacteria responsible for infection
  • Regulate hormone levels

For most cases of acne, blemish care (medication, skin treatment etc) with bensoyl peroxide and a very gentle daily wash is sufficient to keep acne outbreaks to a minimum. Cotton pads impregnated with a salicylic acid solution are also effective when used according to directions. To keep the skin from becoming too dry, causing even more breakouts, use a product such as SkinSoSilky.

Since the 1970s, girls and women have noticed that beginning a hormonal birth control regimen can keep the zits at bay. Hormone treatments have many side effects and are often a last resort unless used for reasons.

Other treatments prescribed by a physician include a category of vitamin A compounds called retinoids. Retin-A was the first discovered and is applied topically. Later innovations include the orally taken Accutane.

Antibiotics such as Keflax and tetracycline are sometimes prescribed when breakouts are very severe and can have dramatic impacts. Among the latest skin care treatments available include topical applications of vitamin B3, as well as red and blue light exposure.

As always, it is best to consult a dermatologist before embarking upon any acne blemish care, medication, skin treatment regimen etc. Most treatments will take several weeks to work, so whatever you choose, be kind to your skin, eat a balanced diet and keep up the good work. Patience may be the best acne blemish treatment.
